Enable DVD Playback, Adobe Reader, Google Earth, Skype and MP3 Playback in Ubuntu Hardy Heron

Ubuntu is crippled on the multimedia front. This is because of copyright and patent
restrictions that complicate distribution of proprietary codecs with Ubuntu, which prides
itself as a totally free operating system. Even though Ubuntu developers haven’t included proprietary codecs, they have made it extremely easy for you to install them later through the Medibuntu repository. You can get encrypted DVD playback, Adobe Flash plugin and non-native media files (Windows media, Apple QuickTime, Real, MP3) support by using this single command. Open the terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and enter the following command :
sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/hardy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2 w32codecs
The above command downloads all the required codecs from the Medibuntu repositories and makes your Ubuntu box multimedia ready.
Note: The above command is for 32 bit processors. AMD 64bit users, replace the ending word w32codecs with w64codecs. PPC users replace w32codecs with ppc-codecs.

Skype :

sudo apt-get install skype

Google Earth :

sudo apt-get install googleearth-4.2

Adobe Acrobat Reader :

sudo apt-get install acroread

Gmail Remote Sign out

It is very common fact that sometimes we login to Gmail in public computers (like in cyber cafe) and forget to sign out from gmail. So, anyone can access your Gmail from that computer. Our email may contain very sensitive and secret data which we don’t want to share with others. Recently Gmail has introduced a new option by which any user can sign out their Gmail account remotely. At the bottom of your inbox, you’ll see information about the time of the last activity on your account and whether it’s still open in another location.

Clear Memory Cache in Windows XP & Vista to Speed Up Your Computer

Running multiple applications simultaneously in Windows Vista for long periods leads to a gradual decrease in system performance over time.Often the only option to this is a Windows Vista Reboot. Even if you close the application in the Windows Task Manager, the tasks/threads associated with the application are not released completely, depleting the system’s memory resources making the system unstable and sluggish.
Follow the below steps to create shortcut for clearing memory on your Windows Vista Desktop.
•    Right-click on your desktop and Select New > Shortcut
•    In type the location of the item path: Enter below information
%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks
•    Click Next. In the next screen, Type a name for this shortcut: Ex: Clear Memory or Process Idle Tasks
•    Click on Finish
Your Clear Memory or Process Idle Tasks shortcut is now created and whenever you feel that your Windows Vista computer is busy not responding to commands, just run this command and it should free up the system. Also note that this tweak works fine in Windows XP also.
